The largest city in the northern Thailand highlands, nestled within the embrace of mountains that surround her on three sides. It is also the most historically significant area in Thailand, replete with breathtaking traditional treasures and a rich cultural heritage. Two of the most popular areas in the city are Nimman and Chiang Mai Old City.

Choosing where exactly to stay in Chiang Mai can be a bit of a challenge due to the fact that this city is so interesting and there are so many sights to visit. It is reported that 70% of Thailand tourists add that city as one of their must visit destinations in Thailand. This percentage grow continuously, as this city becomes more and more popular with the years, very rapidly.

Nimman Road in Chiang Mai doesn't scream at you at first sight, as it is not exactly a metropolitan area. However, to think that it is just a run-down street couldn't be farther from the truth. Actually, as you go further down the road, you will notice that it is the most developed business and nightlife centre of city.

Area and Location
Set against a backdrop of mountains, Nimman Road is located on the west side of city, situated just a few kilometers away from the Old City. This area was developed in the early 2000s and it is still growing rapidly and steadily. The full original name "Nimmanhaemin" comes from the name of the oldest family in the city

Nimman Chiang Mai, the road and its surroundings, is a mix of urban and rural, with lots of agreeable and neighborly young people in the crowd due to the fact that the this road goes parallel to the University and 1-2 Km distance. The surrounding area is a host to lively and warm neighborhoods and are considered a very safe place to live and raise your family.

Nimman is the area where the high society lives, and a place for youngsters to live in and hang out, mainly due to the nightlife that it offers, and the comfortable cost of living in Chiang Mai. Current population's characteristics: young aged people, students, people that come for a short-mid terms, or investors and business people. The area is considered to be the most modern, chic and trendy area of Chiang Mai city. Everything you need is literally within walking distance.

Nimman Attractions, Shopping, Activities
The sois (meaning "streets" in Thai) are alleyways which branch off of either side of the Nimman Road. Each Soi is peppered with an abundance of amenities. With the Maya shopping Mall behind you, the sois to the right are even numbered, and those to the left are odd numbered.

It is within the alleys interconnecting these sois, away from the bustle that characterizes Nimman Road, that you find alluring residential buildings, villas and apartments. It isn't difficult to find rentals as there are plenty of signs to indicate that. Such is the level of safety in these alleys that people leave the back doors open to let in the gentle afternoon breeze.
